The Newark Public Library, committed to creating as safe and clean an environment as possible, today announced it has installed AtmosAir Solutions bi-polar ionization (BPI) indoor air quality technology in the main library and its branches to help improve wellness and safety for visitors and staff.
“We take seriously our position as a critical community resource, and that means people must be able to trust that when they visit us, we can provide a healthy setting,” said Joslyn Bowling Dixon, director of Newark Public Library (NPL.) “We want everyone who enters the Main Library or our six branches throughout the city to feel secure in the air they breathe.”
Even before the pandemic, NPL had set as a goal the improvement of its indoor environments. “We wanted to utilize the latest technology to improve the air in our buildings,” said George W. Williams, assistant director for Capital Planning at NPL. “Our first step was to hire Legacy Engineers to conduct air quality studies and to advise us on the optimal system.”
John Rice, founder and a principal at Legacy, said, “With Newark Public Library installing AtmosAir in the air systems in all of its buildings, it is employing the best engineering practices to achieve a healthy indoor air environment. AtmosAir’s BPI tubes, installed in the library HVAC systems, improve indoor environments by suppressing and reducing airborne micro-organisms and pathogens, including unhealthy and irritating volatile organic compounds (VOCs), viruses, bacteria, mold and odors. The technology makes buildings more sustainable while reducing energy costs and adds an extra layer of protection from the spread of the coronavirus.
