Breathing Room: The NFL’s Quiet New Play for Keeping Stars on the Field

The Patriots and Broncos built their new training facilities around something you cannot see, cannot hear and cannot tackle: the air itself.

As the new NFL season kicks off, two questions will dominate every conversation: who wins the Super Bowl, and which stars stay healthy enough to get there? Nobody can call the first one in August. The second is not pure luck, and two teams are treating it that way.

The New England Patriots and Denver Broncos have opened new training facilities with cleaner indoor air designed in from the start. Both run AtmosAir Solutions technology inside their heating and cooling systems, paired with monitors that read the air around the clock. The coverage reaches the rooms players actually live in: locker rooms, training rooms and weight rooms.

WHAT IS COMING OUT OF THE VENTS

The system releases charged particles called ions into the air, the same thing that happens naturally in a thunderstorm or beside a waterfall. Those ions travel through the room, seek out airborne contaminants, and attack and deter them before anyone breathes them in.

Sensors run alongside the system and report in real time, so staff can see what the air is doing right now instead of waiting on a report about last month.

Cleaner air never shows up in a box score. It shows up in who is available on Sunday.

NOT JUST FOXBOROUGH AND DENVER

The same technology already runs in the training facilities of the Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers, and inside two NFL stadiums: U.S. Bank Stadium, home of the Minnesota Vikings, and SoFi Stadium, home of the Los Angeles Rams and Chargers.

THE MARGIN NOBODY SEES

In football, a bug moving through a locker room can cost a team its starter as fast as a hit can. Air quality has quietly become part of how a roster gets protected, week to week.

AtmosAir Solutions is proud to play a role in keeping these athletes healthy and on the field.
